Island of Curaçao opens tender for 10 to 15MWp large-scale PV plant

Curaçao, a Dutch southern Caribbean island is adding to its renewable energy requirements with a tender procedure to realize a 10 to 15 MWp large-scale PV plant on the island. DNV GL, based in the Netherlands was said to have been contracted by the island’s utility provider, Aqualectra as both the technical advisor and main contact point during the tender period, which ends on 14 December, 2017. DOE challenges developers to scale non-FIT solar

DOE acting undersecretary Mario Marasigan said that single projects of 50 to 100 MW would not be enough to compensate for the country's increasing baseload capacities, asking solar developers to present a more convincing business model for their proposed 100% renewable energy (RE) platform.

Marasigan, a major advocate for RE said that he is realistic about the fact that power systems still need diversified portfolio of energy technologies.
